I had to think long and hard about why I wanted to create a travel blog and what I wanted to express. Through my research, I’ve read many other blogs and frequently consulted them during my travels, especially when navigating complicated border crossings or figuring out how to get from A to B in countries with poor transit systems. These blogs have been invaluable in planning itineraries and tours, visiting archaeological sites, and making recommendations for hotels and restaurants. It’s all out there, and it’s a huge help for anyone exploring the world.
But what did I want my blog to say? I quickly ruled out compiling the best travel routes or making lists (like the 15 best things to do in…) as well as recommending itineraries, hotels, and restaurants unless it felt particularly relevant. I love food, so you will see some of that on my site, and a few accommodations stood out that I want to mention.
For me, travel is more about the experiences you have and the connections you make. As a Highly Sensitive Person, what I feel is just as significant as what I am doing. It’s about the joy I experience when I reach the top of a mountain and the breathtaking view before me, as well as a small interaction with a local when my scooter breaks down. It encompasses the pure pleasure of drifting in an infinity pool alone and in silence as the sun sets over the fields, and it also includes the challenging times when things go wrong, when I’m tired and grumpy, yet I meet the sweetest person who completely transforms my trip, or that moment when I was scared and alone, and someone came to my rescue.
I want to paint a picture of the myriad of experiences and feelings one can have when exploring the world, taking the plunge, and putting yourself out there. It’s about the people you meet, the experiences you have, and the friendships you will forge. It’s about facing your fears, overcoming obstacles, and gaining newfound confidence. It’s about discovering that while we are all unique, we share commonalities.
If my blog has one goal, it’s to encourage people to get out and explore what is happening in our world and in the lives of those who inhabit it, sharing personal travel stories along the way.
And have fun!
As Helen Keller wisely said: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
